Overall this year of math was filled with new things for me. I learned how to code, how to use google spreadsheets, how to work in teams, and how everyone makes mistakes. I feel accomplished because i've done a lot of work that I know for sure will help me in the future.
The first math project we did involved youtube and viral videos. For this project we had to identify what a viral video was depending on its view, subscribers, likes, and dislikes. Once we had this information for 50 videos of the same category we had to find their mean, their variance, their standard deviation (SD),the mean plus SD, and their mean plus two SD. At last we had to make a final page explaining what our final thought of what a viral video was based on the data we collected. Me and my partner decided to make our data about how to bake cupcakes. The first picture is all our data we collected and their products. The most challenging part of this process was getting all the numbers with the right youtuber. The rest of the actual math was done by google spreadsheet. We just typed =Median(A:A),and press enter. This meant that the computer got multiple numbers and found their median.
This is my partners and I final page. In my opinion this part of the project was the hardest. On this page we had to summarize all the data we collected and why we collected it. We also had to agree on what made a viral video what it is and how the math we did helped us identify it.
Another math project we had that I really liked was coding our initials. Although I really struggled throughout the project I never gave up and kept trying until i finally did it. This project conclude of a lot of coding and determination. We previously had a lesson going over how coding worked and what we needed to do but I didn't really get the hang of it. Codings the process of assigning a code to something for the purposes of classification or identification. In this case I had to give a specific code to the computer in order to create my initials. One thing I struggled with the most was getting to know what the numbers I put in the code ment. One thing I learned about myself while doing this project was that I don't give up easily, this assignment took me months to finished but I didn't give up. After asking for a lot of help and failing so many times i kept trying when it finally worked, and I got the computer the write my initials.
We were previously taught lessons on how to give commands and what they meant. For example we gave commands like robot.driveAngle(360)Moves both wheels forward 360 degrees. And robot.driveAngle(-180); Moves both wheels backwards 180 degrees, we've learn more but this is the basic. These commands were put into a program called ChIDE. This program was connected to the C-STEM studio which gave us the robot's movement. Learning these commands help us build shapes and escalate towards writing our initials.
